Euro Calling Cards

If you are placing a collect call, inform the operator. Next, inform the operator that the call being placed is to the USA, give the city and the state being called and the phone number, including the area code. For example: "I would like to call the USA, Athens, Georgia, the number is (706) 542-7120." After exchanging this information, the operator will request that the phone be hung up and he/she will call back. The phone rings shortly thereafter and if the party being called is in, the next voice heard will be theirs. If the party is not in, the operator will tell you to try again later. The customary salutation used when answering the phone in Italy is "Pronto". When the call is answered ask for the person being called, "E' possibile parlare con (name) ?" If your friends or family need to call you, the best places for them to reach you would be the Kehoe Center (early morning or late night). The country code for direct dialing from the U.S. to Italy is 011-39, then the city code, then the numbers.
