17th Edition Wiring Regulations
The 17th edition seems to me to be written for maximum fog and minimum
clarity. What are your views. Are they written to extract the maximum
revenue for colleges rather than for simple safe practice?
50 years ago, I was the chief electrical engineer for a company in the Middle East. Shortly after my arrival, an employee sufferred a fatal electric shock. I discovered that this was on average an annual event and was accepted as such. The workshops were at nearly 100 deg F and nearly 100% humidity. Everyone was drenched in salty perspiration. Floors were bare concrete regularly hosed down. I donned the local footwear (open sandals) and measured my resistance between my hand and a good earth with an AVO meter. I then repeated the measurement in my airconditioned bathroom standing up to my ankles in freshwater in the bath. Yes, as I suspected, the workshop had the lower resistance.
